Plateau State Specialist Hospital has moved to calm public concern following reports of tension within its premises linked to an alleged plot by terrorists to abduct medical personnel.
In an official statement released on Wednesday and signed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Talatu Angi, the management firmly denied claims of unrest, assuring that the facility remains secure and fully operational.
“The attention of the Management of Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, has been drawn to a publication currently circulating on social media captioned: ‘Tension in Plateau Government Hospital Over Terrorists’ Plot to Abduct Doctors, Other Workers,’” the statement said.
Clarifying the source of the concerns, the management explained that the document referenced in the circulating reports was an internal memo intended solely for staff awareness and precaution.
“The circular referenced in the report was strictly an internal communication and part of routine security briefings issued to staff.
“It was intended to encourage vigilance and caution in the course of their daily duties, especially in light of prevailing security concerns.”
Addressing the rumours directly, the hospital emphasized that there is no disruption to its activities or cause for alarm within the facility.
“There is no form of tension within the hospital. Staff and patients are carrying out their normal activities, and all clinical services are proceeding without disruption.”
“The management, therefore, urges members of the public to disregard any misleading or sensational information capable of destabilising the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state. The hospital remains safe, fully operational, and committed to providing quality healthcare services.”
The hospital also reassured residents seeking medical attention that services are ongoing and accessible.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to visit the hospital for their medical needs, as all relevant personnel are on the ground and ready to attend to patients.”
The clarification follows the circulation of a leaked internal memo dated April 13, 2026, which raised concerns about a possible shift in tactics by criminal groups. According to the memo, “intelligence has uncovered a plan by terrorist groups to kidnap medical practitioners, including doctors, nurses, and other auxiliary health workers, particularly in frontline states, including Plateau State, to provide treatment for their members who sustained gunshot wounds and other bodily injuries during engagement with security forces.”
The document further described the development as “a tactical shift by the group, aimed at sustaining operational capability and reducing mortality among their fighters,” warning that “the trend poses a serious risk to healthcare workers, especially in the hinterlands.”
As a precaution, the memo advised that “all hospitals and health centres in the state sensitise their workers to be vigilant and report suspicious persons and movements to security agencies for prompt action, while ongoing efforts by security agencies to avert any untoward developments continue.”
While the memo sparked anxiety after circulating widely online, the hospital’s management has reiterated that it was a routine advisory and not evidence of an immediate threat.
The development comes against the backdrop of ongoing security concerns in Plateau State, where incidents of banditry and attacks in some communities have raised broader questions about the safety of critical institutions, including healthcare facilities.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance, even as efforts remain ongoing to address evolving security challenges across the region.
