Lagos Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Vandal on Third Mainland Bridge

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged vandalism of road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The arrest occurred on April 6, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., after the suspect was reportedly caught tampering with reflective road studs installed along the bridge. These studs are essential safety features designed to improve visibility and guide motorists, especially during nighttime driving or in poor weather conditions.

The development was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Dogara John, was apprehended at the scene while allegedly removing the installations.

A search conducted at the location led to the recovery of 20 reflective studs in his possession, further linking him to the act.

“These road studs play a vital role in helping drivers stay on course and in preventing accidents, particularly on a busy route like the Third Mainland Bridge,” the statement said.

The police emphasized the importance of protecting public infrastructure, warning that acts of vandalism not only damage government property but also put lives at risk by compromising safety measures.

Reinforcing this stance, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command’s strict position against such acts.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and any form of damage to public infrastructure,” the statement read.

He further highlighted the broader consequences of such actions, noting that they undermine ongoing efforts to ensure safety and order across the state.

“He noted that such actions not only endanger lives but also undermine ongoing efforts to maintain safety and order across the state,” it added.

The police command also called on residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity around public infrastructure through designated emergency channels, as investigations into the incident continue.
