Ogun Govt Launches OGSERC to Improve Electricity

The Ogun State Government has taken a major step toward addressing power challenges with the full rollout of the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OGSERC), moving beyond policy on paper to active implementation aimed at transforming the state’s energy sector.

At the inauguration of the newly formed 15-member administrative team in Abeokuta, led by legal expert Oluwatoyin Sonoiki, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, explained that the commission now has the legal authority to oversee all electricity providers operating within the state. He added that a specially designed State Electrification Fund would help extend power supply to rural and underserved communities that have struggled with limited access for years.

Onasanya noted that the broader goal is to establish a modern, dependable, and self-sustaining electricity market that serves residents effectively. He stressed that OGSERC’s role goes beyond administrative functions, focusing on protecting consumers, ensuring fair pricing, and encouraging steady growth in the power sector.

He said, “The Commission is not here to be a ‘cog in the wheel’ of progress, but to collaborate with operators to ensure our people get real value for their money.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dipo Ogunfowora, highlighted the importance of strong regulation in achieving the state’s economic aspirations.

“We are building a power sector that is efficient and capable of supporting our journey toward becoming a true industrial megacity,” he noted.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary, Oluwatoyin Sonoiki, appreciated the Governor’s vision, describing it as one that has steadily taken shape.

She assured residents that the commission would operate with “loyalty, accountability and dedication,” while working closely with stakeholders to deliver reliable electricity services to homes and businesses across Ogun State.
