Borno South senator, Ali Ndume, has raised fresh concerns about the changing tactics of terrorists and bandits in Nigeria, warning that their operations are becoming more coordinated and dangerous.
Ndume made this known while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, where he explained that criminal groups now depend heavily on local informants and unconventional methods to carry out attacks.
According to the lawmaker, insurgents often adopt “hit-and-run” strategies, gathering intelligence and coordinating movements within communities before launching attacks.
“What they do is hit and run. They gather around, pass information among themselves, and most dangerously, they get information from some citizens too. They have informants within the society,” he stated.
Ndume further revealed that some recent attacks involved the use of commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, to transport explosive devices to targeted locations.
“You can imagine, even the bomb that exploded, it was delivered by Keke Napep. They package it and give it to people in Keke Napep to deliver at specific spots,” he said.
He added that he understands how these groups operate, noting that they continuously look for ways to infiltrate communities, carry out attacks, and escape.
“I understand their mode of operation moving around, trying to find a way in to carry out their activities and escape.”
The senator, however, attributed the worsening security situation to weak intelligence gathering, stressing the need for authorities to strengthen surveillance and information networks.
He also expressed concern over the increasing boldness of terrorists, revealing that some now record and share their activities on social media platforms.
“You can imagine bandits and terrorists in Nigeria having the audacity to record their atrocities on TikTok and send it out to people.”
