The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its counter-insurgency campaign with a series of targeted air operations that destroyed terrorist hideouts in the Southern Tumbuns area of Borno State.
Details of the operation were disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the force headquarters.
According to the statement, the air interdiction mission was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on April 24, 2026, at approximately 6:50 p.m., targeting Ali Sheriffti, a location identified as a known terrorist enclave within the Southern Tumbuns.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating heightened terrorist activity in the area. A surveillance mission was subsequently launched, during which several insurgents were observed moving along concealed routes.
The suspects were trailed to structures hidden beneath dense vegetation, suggesting deliberate efforts to evade detection.
After confirming the targets, NAF air assets carried out a precision strike, engaging the structures with onboard munitions.
The statement noted that the mission achieved its objective, resulting in the destruction of terrorist hideouts, thereby degrading their operational capabilities and limiting their freedom of movement in the area.
The Air Force said the strike reflects its continued focus on intelligence-driven and precision-based operations aimed at eliminating terrorist safe havens.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the service’s determination to sustain pressure on terrorist groups, stating that operations would continue with increased intensity to protect the country and its citizens.
