Gombe Govt Rolls Out Full Minimum Wage for Workers

The Gombe State Government has approved the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for workers within the local government system across the state.

The approval was communicated by the Head of Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu, on Friday, April 24, 2026. The directive applies to staff in all 11 local government councils, as well as employees under the Local Education Authorities (LEA) and the primary healthcare system.

According to the statement, the new wage structure will take effect from May 2026. The government also confirmed that it has cleared the outstanding 43 percent balance, bringing the implementation level to 100 percent.

“The decision was made possible due to improved fiscal conditions at the local government level, which now enables councils to meet salary obligations without disruption.”

Shehu noted that the full implementation of the minimum wage is expected to have a positive impact on the workforce, particularly by boosting morale and enhancing productivity.

He added that the move would also strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level, as better-remunerated workers are more likely to perform efficiently in their respective roles.
