Governor Umar Namadi has advised 2,005 newly deployed members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jigawa State to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously as a pathway to self-reliance.
The governor gave the advice during the official swearing-in ceremony held on Friday at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.
Represented by his deputy, Aminu Gumel, Namadi also emphasised the importance of discipline and adherence to the values of the scheme.
The corps members, drawn from different parts of the country, were sworn in by the state Chief Judge, represented by Usman Lamin, who administered the Oath of Allegiance.
He urged them to comply with NYSC rules and regulations and to uphold the image of their families and institutions throughout their service year.
The event attracted government officials, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries, and featured activities such as parades, cultural performances, and orientation briefings on camp guidelines.
The NYSC scheme, established in 1973 under the administration of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, was created to promote national unity and foster integration among Nigerian graduates after the civil war.
Participation in the scheme remains mandatory for graduates below the age of 30, beginning with a three-week orientation programme designed to prepare them for service across the country.
