Kaduna CNG Bus Explosion Caused by Overfilled Tank – Govt

The Kaduna State Government has launched an investigation into a CNG bus explosion at Mando Motor Park, assuring residents the incident was not security-related.

The explosion occurred early Sunday at the Lagos Garage Terminus in Mando, involving a vehicle operated by Silver Luxury Travel.

The blast caused significant damage to the bus and scattered debris across the area, drawing the attention of commuters and traders.

Emergency responders quickly secured the scene, and normal activities resumed shortly after. No casualties or property loss were reported.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, preliminary findings point to a technical fault caused by overfilling the CNG tank.

The government dismissed initial fears of a bomb explosion, describing the incident as mechanical.

Governor Uba Sani has ordered a multi-agency probe to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.

“The investigation will involve relevant stakeholders with a view to enhancing safety protocols and preventing a recurrence,” the statement said.

Authorities also praised the Kaduna State Police Command, especially the Bomb Disposal Unit, for their swift response.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of CNG-powered vehicles in Nigeria, particularly around maintenance and regulatory compliance.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and rely on verified information as investigations continue.
