US Vice President JD Vance has touched down in Islamabad as part of a diplomatic effort to engage Iran in talks aimed at easing ongoing tensions.
Vance made the trip from Washington on Friday, accompanied by a delegation of US officials, underscoring the seriousness of the upcoming negotiations.
Before departing from Joint Base Andrews, the vice president addressed reporters, outlining both optimism and caution regarding the talks. “We’re going to try to have a positive negotiation,” Vance told reporters.
He made it clear that the United States is prepared to engage constructively, provided Iran approaches the discussions with sincerity. “If the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand.
“If they’re going to try to play us, then they’re going to find the negotiating team is not that receptive,” he said.
