The United States has announced a fresh round of sanctions against Iran, targeting what officials describe as a “shadow banking” network used to bypass existing restrictions.
The move was confirmed by State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott in a statement issued Tuesday.
According to the statement, the sanctions affect nearly three dozen entities and individuals allegedly involved in facilitating financial channels that help the Iranian government evade economic restrictions.
Officials say these networks have enabled Iran to generate significant revenue despite ongoing sanctions.
“By dismantling these financial channels, we advance the Administration’s policy in the conflict with Iran and underscore our commitment to imposing maximum pressure on Iran,” Pigott said.
