The Kano State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Ahmed Muhammad Wada, has called on public servants to prioritise ethical conduct and professionalism, describing them as essential pillars for effective public service delivery.
The appeal was made during the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at Federal Government College Kano, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability within public institutions.
Wada, who was represented at the event by Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Garba of the Legal Services Department at the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Kano office, urged members of the newly inaugurated unit to take their roles seriously.
He explained that the ACTU serves as an operational arm of the ICPC’s corruption prevention strategy, providing a structured approach to promoting transparency and accountability at the institutional level.
“You are expected to treat this responsibility as a turning point in ensuring that the affairs of this institution are conducted with integrity and accountability,” Barr. Garba said on behalf of the commissioner.
He further noted that establishing ACTUs in educational institutions is a proactive step toward instilling anti-corruption values early, helping to shape a culture of integrity among both staff and students.
In her remarks, the principal of the college, Hafsat Adebayo, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention for strengthening ethical standards within the education sector.
“This move will go a long way in nipping corruption and related offences in the bud at various levels of society,” she said, adding that the presence of the unit would help promote accountability in daily activities.
Also speaking at the event, Dawah Iliyasu Sodangi, representing the newly inaugurated unit, described the development as a call to responsibility.
He noted that members had received sensitisation on corruption risks and preventive strategies, adding that the unit would function as a guide for ethical behaviour within the institution.
