José Mourinho has moved to shut down speculation linking him with a potential return to Real Madrid, stressing that his attention is firmly on his current role at SL Benfica.
Recent reports had suggested that Madrid president Florentino Pérez is considering Mourinho as a preferred candidate for the managerial position. The speculation comes amid uncertainty at the club, with Álvaro Arbeloa expected to step down after serving as interim manager following the departure of Xabi Alonso.
Despite the growing rumours, Mourinho has played down the possibility of a return, making it clear that his focus remains on guiding Benfica to a strong finish this season.
Speaking to reporters, he emphasised that his immediate objective is to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
“My next goal is to get Benfica to the Champions League.
“If we win the next three matches, we’ll play in Europe’s biggest competition. That’s the only thing on my mind.”
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, a period during which he led the club to major domestic success, including a La Liga title and a Copa del Rey triumph.
For now, however, the experienced manager appears fully committed to his current project, with his attention fixed on helping Benfica return to Europe’s top competition.
