Benue Water Board Begins Major Rehabilitation to Improve Supply

The Benue State Water Board has launched an extensive rehabilitation programme targeting critical water infrastructure across Makurdi, as part of efforts to enhance water supply in the state capital.

The initiative, backed by Hyacinth Alia, focuses on repairing damaged water mains and service lines. The aim is to minimise leakages, improve water pressure, and ensure a more consistent and reliable flow of water to households.

Speaking on the development, the Board’s General Manager, Titus Umande, commended the state government for prioritising infrastructure projects that have a direct impact on the everyday lives of residents.

He described the intervention as a necessary step toward restoring efficient water distribution across the city.

According to the agency, several communities are already benefiting from the ongoing improvements. These include Lobi Quarters, Kwararafa Quarters, Township, High Level, Old GRA, Clerks Quarters, Mission Ward, Ankpa Ward, and Angwan-Jukun, where residents are beginning to experience more stable water supply.

The Board has also called on residents in these areas to support the sustainability of the service by settling outstanding water bills and rates. It emphasised that consistent payment is essential for maintaining operations and funding ongoing maintenance work.

In addition, the agency urged members of the public to promptly report any pipe bursts, leakages, or acts of vandalism. Such cooperation, it noted, would allow maintenance teams to respond quickly and help prevent the loss of treated water.

While acknowledging that some areas may experience temporary inconvenience due to ongoing construction and repair works, the Board assured that all affected locations would be attended to as the project progresses.

The Water Board reaffirmed its commitment to improving water services in Makurdi and expressed appreciation to residents for their patience and cooperation during the rehabilitation exercise.
