The Anambra State Government has debunked reports alleging that a structure within the newly built Government House collapsed following a heavy rainstorm, describing the claims as false and deliberately misleading.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime, dismissed the reports as “mischievous,” accusing those behind them of attempting to spread misinformation and mislead the public.
Aburime clarified that no building or structure within the Government House complex was affected by the storm.
He explained that the only damage recorded involved “a few partitions of the barricade barriers” situated outside the Government House, approximately 20 metres from the main perimeter fence.
According to the statement, the damage resulted from intense winds and thunderstorms that swept through parts of the state, affecting not only the Government House surroundings but also several private properties.
The government further disclosed that the Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority had already mobilised to the affected area and commenced reconstruction work.
As part of efforts to prevent a recurrence, authorities plan to introduce additional engineering adjustments, including improved spacing to allow for better wind flow during severe weather conditions.
The state government also condemned what it described as the deliberate spread of fake news by “misguided elements,” accusing them of politicising a natural weather event.
Residents were urged to disregard the reports and continue supporting the government’s ongoing development initiatives across the state.
