Four men have been taken into police custody for allegedly posing as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a scheme said to have defrauded victims of more than N150 million.
One of the suspects, Yashim Kajang, was apprehended on Tuesday in Abuja. Authorities claim he misled a retired military officer, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, along with others, through a fraudulent land transaction.
Investigators revealed that Kajang allegedly presented himself as someone with strong ties to the FCT Minister and key officials within the Department of Lands. Using this claim, he reportedly collected substantial payments from victims, assuring them he could secure official documents for Plot 1985 in the Guzape II Cadastral Zone.
“He made the victims believe he was working with top government officials and could facilitate the allocation of land,” a source said.
During questioning, Kajang is said to have identified three accomplices Stephen Mhambe, Danladi Jatau, and Terngu Ipaven who were subsequently arrested.
“Yashim Kajang admitted that his accomplices supplied him with data and details of lands used in the fraudulent transactions,” an update from Lere Olayinka, Wike’s aide added.
Authorities confirmed that all four suspects remain in custody, while investigations continue.
