Troops Foil Threat, Arrest Explosives Suspect in Lagos

Troops of Operation MESA have apprehended a suspect allegedly found with explosives in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The development was disclosed by a counter-insurgency and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X on Sunday.

According to security sources, the arrest occurred around 7:45 p.m. on March 21 after intelligence reports indicated that a civilian was allegedly moving around the Agric area with hand grenades during an event.

The sources said troops quickly mobilised to the scene, where they secured the area, disarmed the suspect, and carried out the arrest without any incident.

“On arrival, troops secured the area and arrested the suspect who was found in possession of items suspected to be 36 hand grenades,” the source said.

The suspect, reportedly a native of Osun State but residing in Ikorodu, is currently being held in custody.

The explosives have yet to be fully verified as investigations continue.

Sources added that event organisers and participants were informed of the situation and advised to proceed with their activities while staying alert and reporting any suspicious movements.

The suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to the military for preliminary investigation.
