The Taraba State Police Command on Saturday dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that alleged a planned terrorist attack in parts of the state, urging residents to remain calm and go about their daily activities without fear.
In a statement, the Command said it is aware of the video and has taken proactive steps, in collaboration with other security agencies, to assess and address the situation.
Signed by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, the statement stressed that there is no cause for alarm, noting that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any potential threat.
“Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, intelligence-driven strategies and operational deployments have been strengthened across the state to safeguard lives and property.
“Residents are advised to go about their lawful activities as security operatives have been strategically positioned in critical areas, with heightened surveillance ongoing,” the command said.
The police, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements, individuals, or objects to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.
The Command added that timely and credible information from residents would support swift and effective responses by security operatives.
It also warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such actions could trigger unnecessary fear and panic, and encouraged citizens to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
Reaffirming its commitment, the police said it remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of residents in collaboration with other security agencies.
GoNews reported that three policemen and a vigilante group leader were ambushed and killed on Wednesday in Tor Damisa, the same location mentioned in the viral video as the site of a planned bandit attack.
