Troops Arrests Gunrunner, Raids Hideout in South-East

The Nigerian Army says troops under Operation UDO KA have stepped up security operations in the South-East, recording key successes across Abia and Imo states.

According to an operational update, troops working alongside other security agencies arrested a suspected gunrunner in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was allegedly involved in supplying weapons to criminal groups through a third-party network linked to Bayelsa State. Efforts are ongoing to recover the arms and identify other members of the network.

In a separate incident, troops encountered an ambush while inspecting a burnt vehicle along the SPDC–Etekuru road in Imo State.

“In a related development, troops were ambushed while assessing a burnt vehicle along the SPDC–Etekuru road in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo state.

“Troops subsequently exploited the area and recovered two burnt vehicles as well as two corpses, which were evacuated for further action.”

Security operations also extended to Oguta Local Government Area, where troops, in collaboration with local vigilantes, raided a suspected cultist hideout and arrested five individuals.

One of the suspects has reportedly offered to assist security operatives by leading them to a suspected armoury in the area.

The army said the ongoing operations reflect sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the South-East region.
