A High Court in Jalingo has sentenced 27-year-old Islamic teacher, Mallam Mubarak Hassan, to 15 years in prison for the killing of a 16-year-old boy, Mustapha Ishyaku, in Gassol LGA of Taraba State.
Justice Joel Agya delivered the judgment on Friday, convicting Hassan of culpable homicide not punishable by death and ruling out the option of a fine.
The court found that while the prosecution failed to prove kidnapping, there was enough evidence to establish the homicide charge, though not sufficient for a death sentence.
Defence counsel Dahiru Modibbo has said he will appeal the judgment.
