The Niger State Police Command has arrested a serving Mobile Police officer over his alleged role in an armed robbery attack that resulted in the death of a fuel attendant in Kontagora Local Government Area.
The development was revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X, citing security sources familiar with the incident.
According to the report, the robbery occurred on April 15, 2026, at about 2:40 p.m., following a distress call about an ongoing attack at Garun Mallam Filling Station, located behind BCG Garage in Kontagora.
Sources indicated that two armed men—one reportedly dressed in a mobile police uniform and riding a motorcycle—arrived at the station, purchased fuel, and then demanded money from the attendant.
When the attendant, identified as 22-year-old Jibrin Inuwa from Garun Mallam, resisted, he was shot in the chest. The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead. His body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police patrol teams from ‘A’ Division Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, subsequently tracked the suspects to the Dadinkowa area, located behind a vigilante office. A gun battle reportedly followed, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
“The suspect was later identified as a serving Mobile Police officer, Insp. Jido Ahmed, attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara,” the sources said.
The injured officer was initially treated at the General Hospital in Kontagora before being transferred to the Police Clinic in Minna for further care.
An AK-47 rifle, bearing serial number 38262, along with 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, was recovered from him.
Security sources added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large, while investigations into the incident continue.
