The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has foiled a child trafficking attempt and rescued a 15-year-old girl in Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
The teenager, who is from Ebonyi State, was reportedly abducted and subjected to sexual abuse before being rescued by operatives.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the operation followed a report of the girl’s disappearance lodged at the Kwali Central Divisional Office.
Acting on the information, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit arrested a 46-year-old suspect, identified as Anyanwu Daniel from Imo State.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly held the victim captive for about two weeks and planned to traffic her to Libya for child labour before being intercepted.
“The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution. The statement added.
The NSCDC described the rescue as a major breakthrough in its fight against human trafficking and reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals.
