The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has deployed 1,650 personnel across the state to maintain security during the Easter celebration.
The directive was issued by State Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo in a statement released through the command’s spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde.
Sotiyo instructed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to mobilise operational teams for continuous patrols, noting that the move is intended to curb criminal activities and ensure a peaceful festive period.
He said the personnel would operate through both visible and undercover strategies throughout the celebration.
According to the commandant, the deployment includes specialised units such as Counter Terrorism, Rapid Response Squad, Special Armed Squad, Female Armed Squad, and Disaster Management teams, all tasked with protecting critical infrastructure and safeguarding lives and property.
“These personnel will protect critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as lives and property across the state.”
Officers are also expected to be stationed at key locations including public spaces, worship centres, recreational venues, and shopping malls, while carrying out their duties with respect for fundamental human rights.
Sotiyo further directed collaboration with other security agencies to enhance effectiveness during the period and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“Members of the public should celebrate within the confines of the law and be security conscious.”
He also encouraged Christian faithful to reflect on the significance of Easter and wished them a peaceful and joyful celebration.
