Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have foiled an attempted kidnapping in Port Harcourt, arresting a suspected gang member and recovering weapons.
The incident followed a distress call from a resident whose home was attacked by armed men. Although the attackers opened fire, the victim escaped, prompting a rapid police response.
Investigators later traced a phone left at the scene, leading to the arrest of a suspect identified as Joseph Abibo. Further intelligence guided officers to the gang’s hideout, where they engaged in a gun battle with other members.
Several suspects fled with gunshot wounds, while police recovered two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition during the operation.
Authorities say a manhunt is ongoing to capture the remaining suspects, as part of broader efforts to curb kidnapping and violent crime in Rivers State.
