The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of a significant haul of illicit drugs that were reportedly intended for distribution during the upcoming Sallah festivities.
These substances were intercepted in the Badawa neighborhood of Kano after officers acted on a tip-off regarding the shipment.
According to a statement from Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and public relations officer for Kano, the operation led to the recovery of 75,000 pregabalin capsules, 556 bottles of codeine, and a large amount of cannabis sativa.
The command noted that the raid was conducted under the guidance of DY Lawal, highlighting that the move successfully blocked what could have been a major influx of drugs into the state.
While the primary suspect managed to evade capture during the raid, the agency confirmed that he is currently under surveillance.
Officials stated that they are still working to locate him and ensure he is held accountable for his actions.
Reflecting on the success, Commander Lawal remarked that the seizure has significantly impacted the operations of drug traffickers in the region.
“This seizure is a serious blow to the cartel’s network and protects the good people of Kano from the harms of these illicit substances,” he said.
He further mentioned that the agency is committed to its ongoing battle against drug trafficking, following the instructions of the NDLEA’s top leadership.
“In line with the direction of our Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, we remain steadfast in our commitment to a drug-free society and will not relent in this fight.”
The command also expressed its gratitude to local residents for providing the information that makes such operations possible.
The NDLEA issued a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade, making it clear that the agency will not stop pursuing offenders.
He urged anyone with information about drug-related activities to reach out to the Kano Strategic Command through the agency’s official channels.
