Lagos Man Arraigned for Cutting Partner’s Finger

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of severing his partner’s finger in a domestic violence incident that gained attention online.

In a statement, the agency said it became aware of the case after a viral TikTok video surfaced and immediately contacted the victim to offer support and ensure the matter was officially reported.

The victim had earlier shared a distress video on March 22, revealing she was receiving treatment in a hospital and seeking help. She explained that she could not post more graphic evidence due to platform restrictions and initially felt authorities had not responded quickly enough.

According to her account, the suspect allegedly attacked her at her residence, inflicted serious injuries, and fled with her child while continuing to issue threats.

“This has actually been going on for a long time… we don’t stay together… I stay on my own while he stay on his own,” she said.

Providing an update, the agency stated: “We became aware of the video and promptly established contact with the survivor and ensured that the case was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.”

Preliminary findings show the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, and was reported at the FESTAC Police Station Tactical Squad.

“The incident… is currently being handled by the Family Support Unit, FESTAC Police Station,” the statement added.

The agency disclosed that the assault led to severe injuries, including the loss of a finger, and confirmed that the suspect was later arrested and investigated by law enforcement.

“On 25th March 2026, the case was charged to court at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle,” the statement said, adding that the suspect has been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.

The court granted the defendant bail set at N200,000 with two sureties, while the next hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2026.

The DSVA also noted that the survivor has been referred for psychosocial support to aid her recovery and overall well-being.
