The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, over the alleged killing of his father in Kazaure Local Government Area.
The incident was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, who disclosed that preliminary findings suggest the suspect set his father on fire using a flammable substance.
“The investigation so far indicates that the suspect poured a suspected petroleum substance on the victim and set him on fire,” he said.
According to the police, the attack occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. Officers were alerted after receiving a distress call from a resident, prompting an immediate response to the scene.
“The victim was found in critical condition, while the suspect also had fresh burns and injuries on his forehead, arms, and toes,” Adam added.
The 60-year-old victim was rushed to a hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged with patricide. He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be pursued.
“We are working to establish the motive behind the attack, and justice will be served,” he said.
He also advised residents to resolve conflicts peacefully and report early signs of domestic violence to security agencies.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
