Taraba IDPs: Christian Association of Nigeria Calls for Urgent Help

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State has appealed to Nigerians to urgently support internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ongoing crises across the state.

In an Easter message, the state chairman, Williams Peter Awoshiri, urged individuals, faith-based organisations, and corporate bodies to come to the aid of vulnerable communities by providing essential relief materials.

“In the spirit of Easter, which calls us to love and compassion, I appeal to individuals, faith-based organisations, corporate bodies, and all well-meaning Nigerians to extend generous support to our brothers and sisters who have been displaced by these crises. The Internally Displaced Persons are in urgent need of assistance,” he said.

Awoshiri highlighted the need for donations such as food, medicine, clothing, and shelter materials, noting that assisting those in need reflects shared human and moral responsibility.

He also expressed concern over continued violence in parts of the state, especially in Takum Local Government Area and Donga Local Government Area, where lives have been lost and property destroyed.

“No meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of fear, violence, and instability,” he stated.

Calling for calm, he urged communities to reject retaliation and embrace dialogue, justice, and peaceful coexistence.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by authorities and security agencies, CAN stressed the need for more effective and sustained actions to restore peace. The association also extended condolences to affected families and expressed hope for healing and recovery.

Awoshiri concluded by encouraging unity and resilience, noting that the Easter message offers hope for renewal despite present challenges.
