The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspects linked to a mob attack that resulted in the death of one KC Joe in Kokami village, located in Danja Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.
According to the police, the incident began as a dispute between the victim and another individual, Ibrahim Auwal, who was allegedly stabbed during the altercation and later died. The development reportedly triggered a mob reaction, leading to the killing of KC Joe.
Following the report, security operatives were deployed to the area to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, condemned the act and warned against jungle justice.
He urged residents to report disputes to law enforcement authorities rather than resorting to violence, assuring that those involved would face justice.
“Further development will be communicated in due course, please,” the statement added.
The Katsina State Government also condemned the killings, explaining that the violence stemmed from a disagreement between two individuals over a minor transaction involving garri and sachet water.
“What started as a minor argument quickly turned violent. Joe reportedly stabbed Ibrahim Khalil Auwal during the altercation. The victim was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was later confirmed dead.
“Following the news of his death, some angry youths in the community mobilised, attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along the highway.”
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, described the incident as deeply troubling and warned against misrepresenting it as an ethnic or religious conflict.
“It should be emphasised that the incident was a criminal act arising from a personal dispute. It must not be twisted into an ethnic or religious conflict.
“Katsina State Government strongly assured that all those involved in the violence will be brought to justice. No individual has the right to take the law into their hands.”
Authorities also called on residents to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, noting that security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace in the affected area.
Meanwhile, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, in his Easter message, urged citizens to promote unity and religious harmony as key drivers of development in the state.
“Easter reminds us that hope transcends all challenges. As a state, we must build on this hope. We must build on the foundation of unity and faith,” he said.
The governor stressed that peaceful coexistence between different religious groups is essential for progress, encouraging both Christian and Muslim leaders to work together in fostering stability and growth.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting freedom of worship while urging residents to uphold peace and unity beyond the Easter celebration.
