Gunmen launched an attack on Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night, leaving two people dead and two others injured after a burst of gunfire that lasted several minutes.
According to community sources, the assailants stormed the village around 10:30 pm, shooting indiscriminately before escaping into nearby bushes.
The injured victims were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the attack caused widespread panic among residents.
“Gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10pm on Tuesday night and opened fire sporadically. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” Tengwong said.
He described the incident as yet another troubling case in the ongoing insecurity affecting Riyom and other parts of Plateau State, urging security agencies to step up patrols and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Attempts to get a response from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
