Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted an attempted assault by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents on Benisheikh, a town in Borno State, successfully preventing the attackers from taking control of the area.
The incident was brought to public attention through a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on X. According to information from security sources, the attack occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. on April 14, 2026.
Reports indicate that troops from the Headquarters 29 Task Force Brigade came under sudden attack from the insurgents. Despite the intensity of the assault, the soldiers mounted a strong defense and engaged the attackers in a gun battle that ultimately forced them to retreat.
Their response effectively stopped the attempted overrun of the town, maintaining control of the area and preventing further escalation.
While no soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, three personnel were injured in the course of the exchange of gunfire. The wounded troops were promptly evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care.
Military authorities noted that the number of casualties among the attacking group could not be immediately determined. However, they confirmed that follow-up operations are underway to pursue fleeing insurgents and evaluate the full impact of the attack.
Although the situation in Benisheikh has returned to a level of calm, security sources caution that conditions remain uncertain, with the potential for further threats still present in the area.
