Bauchi Road Crash Kills Three ECWA Members

Three members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) have lost their lives, while 10 others were injured in a road accident at Bara Village in Bauchi State.

The incident occurred on Monday along the Bauchi-Gombe Highway as the victims were returning from an evangelism outreach in Taraba State.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12.15 Bara Unit Command, the crash happened around 11:30 am at the Tumfere-Lakau axis. The accident was reported at about 11:40 am, with FRSC officials arriving at the scene by 11:52 am.

The accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KWL-03HC, belonging to ECWA and driven by Emmanuel Kwata.

Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicate that the crash was caused by a tyre burst while the vehicle was in motion.

A total of 13 passengers—10 men and three women—were on board at the time. Three people, including one man and two women, were confirmed dead, while the remaining 10 sustained various degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for treatment. While some remain under medical care, others have since been discharged.

The deceased have been identified as Mama Deborah Bonat, a former leader of ECWA Women Fellowship International; Rev. Habila Tagwai Kajan, former Zonzon District Church Council (DCC) Secretary; and Mama Lydia John.

In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Danjuma Dickson Auta, ECWA confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its members.

The church also disclosed that the bus was conveying participants from the Zonzon DCC in Kaduna State and said it is working with relevant authorities to return the bodies of the deceased to their families for burial.
