Bandits have abducted nine residents and injured two others during a late-night attack on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the village around 11 p.m., gaining access through a route linked to the Sabon Birni forest, a known hideout for criminal groups.
A local source said residents fled after hearing gunshots, with the attackers abducting seven women and two elderly men during the raid. Two other victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
The source attributed the rising incidents of banditry in the area to the lack of adequate security presence.
Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the state police command, Ahmad Rufai, said authorities are still verifying the exact number of victims abducted.
