Anambra Police Exhume Body of Man Killed by Cousin

Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka have exhumed the body of a 52-year-old man, Chinedu Ezeani, allegedly killed and buried by his cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani.

The case, which had remained unresolved for eight months, was initially reported as a missing person incident before new findings uncovered the alleged murder.

In a statement, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect in connection with the crime.

He said: “Preliminary investigations reveal that on 1st August 2025, at about 8:00 pm, the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months.

“Upon interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the corpse was exhumed.

“The remains have been deposited for necessary forensic examination, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“The case, which was initially reported as a missing person incident at Amichi Police Station, was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect.”

The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
