Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Two in Burnt Body Murder Case

Authorities in Akwa Ibom State have taken two individuals into custody over their alleged involvement in the killing of a young man in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Idem Etim and Namkere Ikoboatang, are being held by the State Police Command as investigations continue into the death of 27-year-old Okon, a resident of Iko Udo Obobo Village.

The incident, which has drawn attention due to its disturbing nature, was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Uyo by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.

According to the police, the victim’s body was discovered inside a room, severely burnt to the point of being unrecognizable. Initial findings suggest that the circumstances surrounding the death point to a deliberate and violent act.

John explained that police operatives acted quickly after receiving credible intelligence about the situation. Officers were immediately deployed to the location, where they secured the area and commenced a detailed investigation.

“Through sustained intelligence-led operations and meticulous investigative efforts, two suspects have been arrested in connection with this heinous crime.

“The suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

The police noted that the arrests were made possible through coordinated intelligence and careful investigative work, which helped identify individuals linked to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has directed that a thorough and comprehensive investigation be carried out. The aim, according to the Command, is to ensure that all those connected to the crime are identified, apprehended, and brought before the law without delay.

As the investigation continues, authorities have reiterated their commitment to justice and to maintaining security within the state.
