3 Killed in Nasarawa Clash as Police Arrest Suspects

Three people have been confirmed dead following a violent clash in Unguwan Yobe community, Aso Fada, in Karu Local Government Area.

The spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the incident began on March 25, 2026, after a dispute involving a herder and a vigilante member.

According to him, a 17-year-old herder, Ado Yau, was allegedly shot dead by a vigilante member, Sunday Adoye, following a confrontation over farmland trespass.

The disagreement reportedly started when herders entered a farm and cut mango leaves to feed their cattle, leading to a clash.

“During the altercation, the suspect reportedly retreated to his residence, retrieved a pump-action firearm, and shot the victim, who died instantly,” Nansel said.

The killing reportedly triggered a reprisal attack, as other herders mobilised and stormed the community, escalating the violence.

During the unrest, four people sustained injuries, while properties including four houses, two vehicles, and three motorcycles were destroyed by fire.

Nansel further revealed that two additional victims Muhammadu Ibrahim, 25, and Ado Gambo, 18 lost their lives during efforts by security personnel to restore order.

Police officers and other security operatives were deployed to the area, and the injured victims were taken to a medical facility in Mararaba for treatment.

The police confirmed that the suspected shooter, Sunday Adoye, has been arrested, and the firearm used in the incident has been recovered. Additionally, 15 other suspects have been apprehended in connection with the violence.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, while patrols and surveillance have been intensified across the affected community and surrounding areas to prevent further escalation.
