Nigerian artist Joeboy has weighed in on the heated debate surrounding South African star Tyla’s latest Grammy win, which saw her edge out some of his own peers.
Sitting down for a chat with Jay On-Air, Joeboy pushed back against the narrative that Tyla’s victory was unearned, insisting that she absolutely earned her spot on the podium.
While he admitted he was personally pulling for Davido to take home the trophy, he maintained that Tyla was a legitimate contender who deserved the recognition.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artist whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work.
“People can be angry all they want but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph,” he said.
Beyond defending her win, Joeboy expressed a high level of respect for her craft and professional drive, naming her as a talent he’s keen to team up with on a track down the line.
