The nominees for the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have been unveiled, spotlighting the best of African film and television over the past year.
The awards, regarded as one of the continent’s most prestigious entertainment honours, reflect the growing depth, quality, and global relevance of African storytelling.
Leading this year’s nominations are Gingerrr and The Herd, each earning nine nominations, making them the top contenders for the 2026 edition. Close behind is To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow secured seven nods.
The nominations span 32 categories, including jury-decided, audience-voted, and special recognition awards. The ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 9, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.
In the acting categories, veteran actress Sola Sobowale received nominations in both lead and supporting roles, while rising star Genoveva Umeh earned her first-ever nomination for Best Lead Actress.
Other notable nominees include Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji, highlighting a mix of experienced performers and emerging talents.
