Lilian Afegbai Apologises After AMVCA Snub Reaction

Lilian Afegbai has publicly apologised following her earlier reaction to being left out of the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards nominations.

The Nollywood actress had initially expressed frustration after the nominee list was released, stating that she deserved recognition for her role as Idia in the film To Kill A Monkey. In a now-deleted post, she had criticised the organisers over her exclusion.

In a new statement released on Saturday, Afegbai acknowledged that her response was inappropriate and expressed regret over her comments.

“That tweet should not have happened. No excuse. It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill A Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me,” she said.

She explained that her reaction was driven by disappointment and personal emotions, admitting that it was not justified.

“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded. When I wasn’t nominated, I reacted from a place of hurt and entitlement. I was wrong, and I am sorry.”

Afegbai added that her role in the film marked an important moment in her career, which made the omission more difficult to accept.

Her apology signals a shift in tone, as she seeks to make amends with the organisers, fellow nominees, and her supporters.
