The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, took place on Saturday night at Eko Hotel and Suites, bringing together some of the biggest names in African film, television, and entertainment.
The annual award ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements in acting, directing, filmmaking, digital storytelling, cinematography, and television production across the continent.
One of the biggest winners of the evening was My Father’s Shadow, which secured the coveted Best Overall Movie award.
Its director, Akinola Davies Jr., also won the Best Director category, further cementing the film’s dominance at this year’s edition.
In the acting categories, Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his role in Colours Of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor claimed the Best Lead Actress award for her performance in The Serpent’s Gift.
Ejiofor also emerged winner in the Best Supporting Actress category for The Herd, making her one of the standout performers of the night.
The Best Supporting Actor award went to Bucci Franklin for To Kill A Monkey.
In the Indigenous Language Film categories, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won Best Indigenous Language Film in West Africa, while productions from East, South, North, and Central Africa also received recognition.
The television categories also attracted attention, with Inimba winning Best Scripted Series and Nigerian Idol taking home the award for Best Unscripted Series.
Digital creators were not left out, as Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom won the Best Digital Content Creator category.
The ceremony also honoured veterans of the entertainment industry.
Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo received the Industry Merit Award in recognition of their long-standing contributions to Nollywood.
Meanwhile, actress Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award.
