The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits on communities in Dandume Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of one suspected member of the group.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu.
According to him, the attack took place on April 28, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m., when heavily armed bandits invaded Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages, causing panic among residents.
Aliyu explained that the police acted promptly after receiving a distress call, with the Divisional Police Officer in Dandume mobilising officers to the affected areas.
Upon arrival, the operatives engaged the attackers in a gun duel, successfully repelling the assault and forcing the bandits to retreat. During the operation, one suspect was arrested, while several others fled the scene with injuries.
He further disclosed that two residents sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The police spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the area.
