Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted it was “difficult” for his side to cope after being reduced to 10 men in their Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
The Premier League champions went into the match already trailing 3-0 from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Their challenge became even tougher when captain Bernardo Silva received a straight red card for blocking the ball on the goal line.
Vinicius Jr converted the resulting penalty to put Los Blancos ahead.
Although Erling Haaland later equalised to make it 1-1 on the night, Vinicius struck again as Madrid secured a 5-1 aggregate victory.
Speaking to Amazon Prime after the match, Guardiola said: “It’s difficult once you are 4-0 down and playing 10 men against 11. But we did everything.
“It’s a little bit of a learning. But it should have been 11 against 11. But we never know. Maybe we lose 6-0 but it’s a fact.
“Thibaut Courtois is a fantastic keeper. First 15-20 minutes was good but after that it was 10 against 11 and it was difficult.”
