Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand has identified Arsenal and Bayern Munich as the leading contenders to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Hjulmand made the remark during his post-match interview after Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in their Round of 16 second-leg clash at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
With the result, Arsenal have advanced to the quarter-finals, where they will face Sporting CP, while Bayern Munich are on course for the last eight after a commanding 6-1 win over Atalanta in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.
“Yeah, I think they could,” Hjulmand said when asked if Arsenal have what it takes to go all the way in the competition.
“You can see in the Premier League as well, their lead, the fewest goals against them, the highest number of goals scored, so it’s not a coincidence.
“But I also think Bayern. Bayern is a very different type of game. They do it differently, Bayern, and they are a very, very high level. I would say it’s head-to-head.”
