Thierry Henry has cautioned Mikel Arteta that he may come under scrutiny from Arsenal’s board if the team finishes the season without a major trophy.
Arteta’s side is currently in a strong position, competing on multiple fronts as they chase success in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
In the league, Arsenal sit at the summit, holding a three-point lead over Manchester City, although their closest rivals still have a game in hand. On the European stage, the Gunners are preparing for a crucial Champions League semi-final second-leg clash against Atletico Madrid, with a place in the final at stake.
Despite the promising campaign, expectations around the club remain high, especially considering the progress made under Arteta and the investment in the squad over recent seasons.
Arsenal’s most recent major trophy came in 2020, when Arteta led the team to victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry suggested that continued support from fans and stakeholders must eventually be matched with tangible success.
“The board is gonna have to decide what they are gonna do with Mikel Arteta. All I’m saying is that at one point, after all those years and the amount of money on the table to have two teams, we have all said Arsenal have the best squad this season.
“At one point, you’ll have to talk and answer some questions if you don’t win. It is just a normal thing after so long.
“While it’s all good and we are all supporting as Arsenal fans where we are going to be, but if it doesn’t happen, like I always said, you are going to have to answer some questions that the board is going to ask you.”
