Rema to Perform at 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony

Nigerian music star Rema has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.

FIFA announced the development through an Instagram post unveiling the list of international artistes expected to perform during the global football event.

The Afrobeats sensation will share the stage with several major global stars, including LISA, Katy Perry, Tyla, Future, and Anitta.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 12, 2026, as the United States, Canada, and Mexico jointly host the tournament.

In its announcement, FIFA said the choice of performers reflects the multicultural identity of the United States and the influence of different communities on global entertainment and music.

“This lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment, and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country,” FIFA stated.

Rema’s inclusion in the lineup further highlights the growing global recognition of Afrobeats and the increasing influence of Nigerian music on the international stage.

The announcement comes shortly before the release of the tournament’s official anthem titled “Dai Dai,” which features Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy and Colombian pop icon Shakira.

The song is expected to be officially released on May 14.

FIFA also revealed that the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for July 19, will introduce a Super Bowl-inspired halftime show for the first time in the tournament’s history.

The halftime performance will be curated by Chris Martin, lead vocalist of Coldplay.

The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup is already shaping up to be one of the most entertainment-focused tournaments ever staged, combining football with major international music performances.
