Paris Saint-Germain’s key Ligue 1 fixture against RC Lens, initially scheduled for April 11, has been rescheduled to May 13.
The French league approved the postponement to allow PSG more recovery time between their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clashes with Liverpool FC.
PSG are set to host the first leg on April 8 in Paris before traveling to Anfield for the return leg on April 14.
The decision, however, has sparked controversy, with Lens reportedly opposing the change. The club currently sits second in the league standings, just one point behind PSG, although the Paris side still have a game in hand.
League authorities explained that the adjustment was made to support French clubs competing in European tournaments and to help maintain the league’s four qualification spots in the Champions League.
In a similar move, another Ligue 1 fixture involving RC Strasbourg Alsace and Stade Brestois 29 has also been postponed. This is to give Strasbourg adequate preparation time for their UEFA Conference League quarter-final against .
