A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may struggle to replicate his 2023 election performance.
Speaking on Morning Brief on Channels Television, Momodu argued that shifting political dynamics make it unlikely for major candidates to retain their previous vote counts.
“Are you saying that Tinubu would retain all the over 8 million people that voted for him last time?
“How are you sure that Atiku would retain all the people that voted for him last time, what is the guarantee that Obi and Kwankwaso would be the only people who would retain voted for them the last time?”
He maintained that the political landscape has changed significantly since the last election.
“The situation has changed. Tinubu today, if he allows a free and fair election, might not even get three million votes despite all the governors…”
Momodu also said that opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso may also find it difficult to maintain their previous support base.
He added that the ADC remains focused on building its platform ahead of future elections.
