APC Leaders Call for Unity Ahead of Elections in Edo South

The Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has said that Edo State could benefit from having a ranking senator in the National Assembly if he is re-elected.

He made the statement on Saturday in Benin while presenting his 30-month scorecard to leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress.

According to Imasuen, achieving ranking status in the Senate would strengthen his capacity to deliver more impactful representation and attract additional development opportunities to Edo South.

“Firstly, I can assure you that if re-elected, the state will get the chance of having a ranking senator in the Red Chamber next year, which will be of great value to the people. The mandate you entrusted to me has been guided by one clear vision: to deliver representation that is impactful and to elevate the quality of life of our people. That vision is anchored on human capital development, and it has shaped every achievement documented in the 54-page account of stewardship now in your hands.”

He explained that his policy direction has focused on local economic development through investments in education, skills training, and empowerment initiatives, particularly targeting youths and women.

“From the onset, our policy thrust has been local economic development. We have chosen to invest in people, in education, in training and retraining, and in the strategic empowerment of our youth and women, with deliberate focus on the girl-child.

“We have facilitated scholarships for students across the district, and we are set to commence the renovation and equipping of selected public schools. We have organised vocational and skill acquisition programmes in ICT, tailoring, welding, bag and shoe making, agriculture, and agro-processing, because dignity begins with the ability to earn.”

Imasuen also highlighted interventions in the health sector, particularly efforts aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality through support for traditional birth attendants.

“Our defining intervention has been in healthcare. To reduce maternal and infant mortality, we revived the time-tested role of traditional birth attendants, equipping them to provide prenatal and antenatal services to women who cannot access formal health centres.

“This programme is implemented under the strict supervision of the Edo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure compliance with medical standards.”

On infrastructure, he pointed to completed road projects, including the Osasere Osayogie/Utekon Bypass Link Road in Ovia North-East and parts of Irokhin Road in Orhionmwon, with further works planned.

“In road infrastructure, we have completed the first phase of two critical projects: the 3.5km Osasere Osayogie/Utekon Bypass Link Road, with dual-side drainage, in Ovia North-East LGA. We have also completed 2km of Irokhin Road in Orhionmwon LGA. The extension of this road from Ogan, alongside others, is captured in the 2026 Appropriation Act.”

He called on constituents to remain united, avoid divisive rhetoric, and support decisions that would benefit the district, expressing readiness to seek another term in office.

Supporting his position, former Deputy Governor Pius Odubu urged party members to avoid divisions and rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

The event was attended by key APC figures, members of the state assembly, and other stakeholders across Edo South.
