Women from the Mushere community in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State staged a dramatic protest on April 16, 2026, over the removal of their traditional ruler, Mishkakam Mushere, Julius K. Diblang.
In a rare and symbolic move, the women marched naked to the council secretariat, voicing their anger and demanding his immediate reinstatement. The state government had earlier announced the monarch’s removal, citing insecurity in the area, alleged links to conflicts, and failure to curb violent attacks.
But many residents strongly disagree with that decision, describing it as unfair and politically motivated. They argue that the traditional ruler had been instrumental in restoring peace and helping displaced persons return home.
The protest marked the peak of several demonstrations that have taken place since his removal, with supporters insisting that the government acted at the wrong time, given the ongoing security challenges.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the women delivered a powerful message that quickly drew widespread attention after videos surfaced online.
Explaining their actions, one of the protest leaders said:
“We had to remove our clothes to protest and demand that our paramount ruler, Mishkakam Mushere, Julius K. Diblang, who was unjustly removed from office, be reinstated immediately.
“This is a message from us to Governor Caleb Mutfwang that he should return Mishkakam Julius Diblang immediately or a big calamity will befall him. The world has seen our nakedness, and those who understand these things will know that you don’t take a woman’s nakedness for granted.
“Governor Mutfwang should better listen to us and bring back Mishkakam Mushere before it’s too late,” she said.
