The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced that its conflict with Iran has entered what it described as a “new stage,” with both American and Israeli officials indicating that further attacks may follow.
According to the Israeli military, the new phase could involve “more surprising actions,” although officials did not provide additional details about the planned operations.
Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, said that military strikes targeting Iran are expected to “increase a lot.”
The IDF also claimed that it destroyed an underground bunker previously used by the late Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Israeli officials said the bunker had continued to serve as a location for senior Iranian officials even after Khamenei’s death.
According to the military, roughly 50 fighter jets carried out the strike, dropping about 100 bombs on the target in Tehran.
The IDF said the bombs were spread across several streets and had multiple entry points into the underground complex. There was no immediate response from Iran, according to the Guardian UK.
Meanwhile, the United Nations reported that nearly 100,000 people in Lebanon have been displaced from their homes as the conflict intensifies, while many Syrian refugees in the country have begun returning across the border to Syria.
The Israeli military has also instructed large numbers of residents to evacuate parts of Beirut’s southern suburbs, saying the area is being targeted because it believes fighters from Hezbollah are operating there.
