UTME 2026: Kano Police Assure Security for Candidates

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its readiness to ensure a safe and secure environment for candidates participating in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command outlined a series of security measures designed to guarantee a peaceful and well-coordinated examination process at all designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

The examination, organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is scheduled to run in Kano from April 15 to April 26, 2026, with daily sessions between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Command has completed all necessary preparations to safeguard lives and property throughout the examination period.

“We have concluded adequate security deployments to ensure a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free conduct of the UTME across all CBT centres,” he said.

Bakori explained that a significant number of police personnel, including tactical units and undercover operatives, have been strategically positioned at examination centres and other critical locations across the state.

He noted that the deployment strategy covers key areas such as access control, crowd management, and rapid response to emergencies.

“We have also activated intelligence-led surveillance and intensified patrols on routes leading to CBT centres, motor parks, and other public places to deter criminal activities,” Bakori added.

In addition, officers from the traffic unit have been mobilised to manage vehicular movement around examination centres to ensure candidates arrive on time.

The police boss further disclosed that the Command is collaborating closely with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services, to maintain coordinated security operations throughout the examination period.

He warned that any individual or group planning to disrupt the exercise should desist, stressing that the Command will take firm action against anyone involved in examination malpractice, impersonation, or any form of disturbance.

Candidates were advised to arrive early at their centres, comply with instructions from examination officials, and refrain from bringing prohibited items such as electronic devices into the examination halls.

The Command also appealed to parents and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“The Kano State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of all candidates and the success of the examination,” the statement added.
